GeoFarmer tool helps information sharing among farmers
Information and experiences sharing among farmers is important in improving farming practices. To support these exchanges of experiences, the GeoFarmer app was designed to help these farmers. In this app, it enables a multi-way communication among farmers, researchers, and community workers to collect and share information and experiences. Farmers learn from each other by asking questions, sharing some suggestions on how to manage and improve their farm.
GeoFarmer was tested and deployed in three use cases alongside development projects in Latin America (Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua), sub-Saharan Africa (Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda), and South Asia and South-East Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Vietnam).
There are plans for the next phase to integrate the GeoFarmer with other mobile apps to solve the problem of missing data collected by different sectors from the academe, government, non government institutions, and the private sector. Also, combining the different e-extension service systems will help to establish innovative monitoring systems and produce smart metrics for the supply side, and innovate around the development of unique services.
