Exploring Television as Medium for Rural Development in Bangladesh

Television is said to be one of the most important medium for communicating with rural communities as it has the potential to disseminate development information. However, in Bangladesh, a group of researchers who did a study to identify the use of television in the rural communities found that rural people are unaware about the tv programs or that they don’t have time to watch these programs. Thus, although tv could be the most popular among all the information sources, the researchers recommended the frequent conduct of rural information needs assessment to understand villagers’ information needs hence sufficient related programs necessary to be broadcast at appropriate times.
