ComDev Asia joins the celebration of International Women’s Day
ComDev Asia joins the world in celebrating the International Women’s Day, March 8. With the theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment”. ComDev Asia, together with its partners, reiterates its commitment to tell and document compelling stories that highlight the important role of women in the context of inclusive development, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
Here’s a story of a group of women in the Vaijapur cluster in India that we’re able to reap good yields, thanks to sustainable farming efforts. The women were guided by the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) through a collective approach. SEWA helped the women in purchasing farm inputs, and trained them in sustainable farming practices, including the production of homemade biopesticides. From the previous 22 quintals of yield per hectare, the women were able to produce 35 quintals per hectare. SEWA also connected the women with potential buyers.
