Social transformation through digital technology among women farmers in India

Women farmers are considered as a driving force in the agriculture sector. However, the lack or limited access to agricultural information and technology has become a stumbling block to empower women engaging in agricultural work. To address this, an innovative digital tool was developed in India to empower women farmers, promote gender equality in agriculture, and support sustainable agricultural practices. A mobile phone application called FarmPrecise ”provides farmers a “weather-based, dynamic decision support system customized to their specific crops and farm resources across key agricultural operations” (Konde & Shelke, 2023).

Aside from providing pertinent information about agriculture, FarmPrecise also includes interactive forums and other resources to facilitate knowledge sharing among women farmers and self help groups. To engage participation among women farmers, the app also conducts pest and disease competitions that was also used in identifying and managing common crop pests and diseases. To know more about FarmPrecise, click here.
