Family Farmers’ meet in PH to Strengthen Climate Finance Access

Leaders of eleven regional and global farmers’ organizations have gathered in Pasig this week to push for stronger farmer representation in climate finance decision-making. The meeting, held from March 2 to 6, brings together members of the Family Farmers for Climate Action (FFCA), a global coalition advocating for family farmers’ access to climate resources. Participants aim to strengthen their collective voice in shaping climate finance processes at national, regional and global levels.

The workshop is hosted by the Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development and co-organised with the Foundation for Farmers Organizations for Restorative Action and the Global Strategic Communications Council. The gathering comes as global climate finance commitments expand, yet many small-scale farmers — who are on the frontline of climate impacts and play a central role in food production, biodiversity protection and land restoration — continue to face limited direct access to funding and decision-making platforms.

Organizers said the workshop will focus on defining shared priorities and concrete actions to deepen advocacy and coordinated influence. Central to discussions is the proposed Family Farmers Resiliency and Empowerment Fund, a mechanism designed to channel climate finance more directly and effectively to farmers and their organisations.
