AMARC AP celebrates IWD 2026: Empowering Women’s Voices from across the Asia-Pacific

In celebration of International Women’s Day 2026, AMARC Asia-Pacific designed a
remarkable and inspiring digital campaign that sought to amplify the voices of women
community radio broadcasters. This was a vibrant celebration of the strength and resilience of
women who are shaping the communities they live in through the power of community radio.
The campaign, which was live between March 2 nd to 8 th , 2026, included contributions of
various women broadcasters from different countries, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji,
India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, Thailand, and Timor-Leste. Each of the participating
women broadcasters created short and impactful statements that were written both in their
native languages and in English. These were then developed into visually appealing social
media cards and shared on the various social media platforms of AMARC Asia-Pacific. A
total of eighteen cards were created and shared, each bearing the inspiring tagline: “From
airwaves to digital platforms – creating spaces for women’s voices.”

The campaign voiced a common promise: to advocate for justice, equality, and stronger
communities through the work they do on community radio. Through the daily social media
posts, the viewers got a glimpse into the dreams and fearless attitude of these women
broadcasters, all of whom are relentlessly working towards inspiring real change through
community radio. The captions also added to the narrative, emphasizing the role these women broadcasters play in keeping the community informed, connected and motivated. Through the dedication of their time, expertise and passion, these women broadcasters ensure the stories of local communities, their struggles and aspirations continue to be told.

The women broadcasters voiced concerns such as “Let radio open doors to justice for girls
facing violence and pressure,” and “I speak on community radio, so girls know their rights
and choices,” showing their commitment towards advocacy and awareness. Other statements
were made regarding women and their role in society, such as, “From home to nation, women
are the force that sustains and strengthens society.”

The campaign also addressed some of the pressing issues in society, which were reflected
through statements such as, “Women deserve free spaces to speak without online abuse or
intimidation,” and “I use radio to demand change, not to accept silence,” which reflects the
unyielding attitude of women broadcasters.

This campaign was more than just celebrating women’s contributions; it emphasized how
community radios play a vital role in promoting gender equality and justice in the society. It
urged people to listen, support and engage in activities that create change. Through this
campaign, AMARC Asia-Pacific was able to emphasize its commitment to creating spaces
where women’s voices are heard, respected and empowered to create meaningful change.
Aligned with the theme of UN Women’s – International Women’s Day 2026: “Rights, Justice,
Action,” AMARC Asia-Pacific wishes to extend an invitation to all to be a part of this movement of change. With community radios, let’s listen, share and help raise women’s voices in our communities for equal rights, justice and help contribute through our actions in creating a just and inclusive world. Together, let us strengthen our community media as a powerful tool for equality, gender justice and transformative change.
