Role of women in agri highlighted in PH radio initiative episode
In celebration of International Women’s Day on 08 March, and National Women’s Month in the Philippines, let us take a listen to a radio episode about women in agriculture.
Daryl Leyesa of rural women’s group Pambansang Koalisyon ng Kababaihan sa Kanayunan (PKKK) revealed in an episode of Makamundong Usapan (Earth-Friendly Conversations), which aired on local state radio Radyo Pilipinas 96.9 Camarines Norte, revealed the various challenges that women face in farming and rural communities. The episode also emphasized the need to recognized unpaid domestic labor, such as household chores and taking care of children — roles which are usually fulfilled by women.
The episode also discussed various challenges women face in rural communities in work and social settings. Goals towards empowering rural women were also discussed.
This episode is part of the Rural Radio Initiative, a project which was implemented in the Asia-Pacific Region as part of the United Nations Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF 2019-2028). For more episodes produced from the Rural Radio Initiative, click here.
