World Radio Day Celebration 2026

AMARC Asia-Pacific proudly joins community broadcasters around the world in celebrating World Radio Day 2026 on 13 February 2026, under this year’s powerful theme: “AI is a tool, not a voice.”

Proclaimed in 2011 by UNESCO Member States and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, World Radio Day (WRD) is observed every year on 13 February. It is a moment to recognize and thank radio broadcasters for the vital role they play in society—delivering reliable news, amplifying diverse voices, and sharing stories that inform, connect, and empower communities.

Today, Artificial Intelligence (AI) opens a new chapter for radio—not only as a driver of innovation, but as a potential means to deepen the bond between broadcasters and their audiences. When used ethically and responsibly, AI can support professional judgment, enhance creativity, and strengthen public service values. It can help improve efficiency, accessibility, and accuracy, while allowing broadcasters to focus more fully on what matters most: people and communities.

However, technology alone does not build trust. Radio broadcasters do. Trust is created through human insight, accountability, and lived experience—qualities that no algorithm can replace.
