UPLB holds webinar on trends about youth and agriculture in PH
Los Baños, Philippines – The Agricultural Systems Institute of the College of Agriculture and Food Science of the University of the Philippines Los Baños organized a webinar that tackled the current trends and perspectives on youth and agriculture in the Philippines, June 7.
Ms. Teresa Joi P. De Leon, an anthropologist and process innovator in the Socio-Economic Division of the Philippine Rice Institute (PhilRice) discussed about the programs to engage the youth including opportunities in the agricultural sector. According to De Leon, even if the proportion of young people engaging in the agricultural industry is still minimal, they’ve noticed an increase on the number of Filipino youth participating in agricultural activities in recent years.
Some of the factors identified on the increasing engagement of young people in agriculture include the their willingness to be part of the solution to issues on food security, pro-health, and community development.
