Governance, resilience keys to more sustainable food systems – study
Governance and resilience are two key areas identified as leverage points towards transforming food systems for sustainability, a new study finds.
The Food Systems Countdown Report 2024, released this month, says that in terms of governance indicators, public access to information and government effectiveness are trending towards a desirable direction. However, there was no change in food safety capability, while there is a downward trend in civil society participation and accountability indices.
In terms of resilience, while food supply variability is going favorably downward, food supply volatility is in an unfavorably upward trend.
“Governance and resilience indicators show the largest number of connections to other themes, reflecting their cross-cutting importance for food system outcomes,” the report says.
