Indonesia is Taking a Big Step on Family Farming
Last May 17, 2022, a hybrid workshop titled “Multi-Stakeholder Discussion on Family Farming National Action Plan and Strategic Activities” was conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Almost 100 individuals from various farmers’ organizations and government agencies participated. Included here are Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Ministry of Agriculture, National Food Agency (Bapangnas), and National Planning Agency (Bappenas).
Led by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), they talked about how to strengthen family farming in Indonesia geared toward their National Action Plan for Family Farming (NAPFF) and its strategic plan. In a consensus, they decided to consider family farming a national priority. As a highly reliant country on agriculture, with 14% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) being from it and 93% of its local farmers being small family farmers, the talk is considered necessary to Indonesia.
