1st UNDFF Global Forum to highlight Outcomes, Experiences, and Challenges in Family Farming
After three years of implementation, the UN Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF) 2019-2028 will hold its first virtual global forum on Sept.19-22. Co-organized by FAO and IFAD, the UNDFF Global Forum aims to provide a general overview of policy trends and the relevance of family farming vis-à-vis the Sustainable Development Goals and the present global development agenda. The forum will also serve as a platform for sharing of lessons, experiences, challenges, and outcomes of the UNDFF implementation across regions that will guide and shape the UNDFF agenda in years to come.
On September 20 (Day 2), Ms. Irish Baguilat from the Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA) is expected to present the key challenges and emerging priorities on Family Farming in Asia and the Pacific. AFA is one of the steering committee members of ComDev Asia, the regional initiative that promotes Communication for Development (ComDev) in the Asia-Pacific region. Meanwhile, Mr. Mario Acunzo from FAO and Dr. Maria Stella Tirol from the University of the Philippines Los Baños- College of Development Communication will share the utilization and impact of Rural Communication Services (RCS) in the context of Family Farming.
