Unraveling C4D Trends in Europe

CARDEY 1So how does C4D as practiced in Europe look like? Dr. Sarah Cardey, associate professor and Director of the Graduate Institute for International Development, Agriculture and Economics at University of Reading in UK, gave an interesting talk on the topic.

Cardey tackled the question by focusing on four areas of discussion: EU and its rural development policy, cases of ICTs in rural development, issues, and the missing links given the ICTs and C4D efforts in the region. 

GRI-RC joins CCComdev

GRI LogosThe Global Research Initiative for Rural Communication (GRI-RC) joins CCComdev global platform as a major partner. Comprised of the FAO ComDev team and six academia engaged in doing research, provision of technical assistance, and offering of formal courses in ComDev, GRI-RC will now be sharing in this platform their work and experiences on rural communication in the various continents and countries they cover.  

Rural Communication Working Group Proposed at IAMCR

A working group on Rural Communication has been proposed to the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). This move was initiated by the GRI-RC during the IAMCR international conference in July this year.

Envisioned to provide a platform for academic scholars and professionals working in the field of rural communication, the focus of the group, however, goes beyond the provision of services in rural areas. It adopts a broad understanding of rural communication, ranging from the functioning of multi-stakeholder platforms, over rural radio and other ICTs, to agricultural extension services via farmer field school, sms services or other channels to improving access to rural telecommunications infrastructures.
