A Radio Production Workshop in India

radio production workshop 370x290At the end of July, 40 students in India attended a 3-day workshop in radio production at the Salesian College Sonada. It was the first time that such an event took place at the College, where a community radio will be launched soon.

Students were trained in concept programming and production, participating in recording sound bites, jingles, promos, etc. They also learned about script writing.

Throughout the three-day workshop, students were taught by the facilitator, Siliguri Mr Mahammad Johaed, Lecturer in the Mass Communication department at Salesian College, the power of radio as a tool to reach members of their community.

By promoting training in ComDev, FAO hopes to continue building capacity in the use of participatory approaches to address the knowledge and information needs of rural stakeholders and to facilitate their active involvement in development initiatives.

Use of mobile phones by the rural poor gender perspectives in South Asian countriesMobile phones have contributed in various ways to rural development, from reducing information asymmetry, improving functional networks, to increasing access to services and finance. Yet a digital gender divide exists.

The study examines gender perspectives on the use of mobile phones by the rural poor by identifying their information needs using gender-disaggregated statistics gathered from developing economies in South and South East Asia. 

Nepal holds its First National Community Radio Journalists' Conference

acorab 20062016At the end of the month of May, 110 participants gathered in Kathmandu, Nepal, for the first National Community Radio Journalists' Conference. The inauguration session was chaired by the President of ACORAB, Mr. Mohan Chapagain and Honorable Information and Communication Minister, Mr. Sherdhan Rai.

Community radio journalists, media researchers, community radio activists, academicians, development communication practioners joined dignitaries from various organisations for the event.
